Jeep Meridian will be officially revealed tomorrow

The Meridian has been built on a modified version of the Compass’ platform.

One more day and the Jeep Meridian will be unveiled. Essentially the Jeep Commander sold in Brazil, the Meridian is Jeep’s take on the large SUV segment, which is dominated by the Toyota Fortuner. With the reveal only one day away, here’s what we know about the Jeep SUV.

The Meridian will be an extended version of the Compass. The platform has been lengthened, and while there are bits that resemble the Compass, Jeep will make sure that the Meridian’s design isn’t seen as an extension of the Compass. In fact, the interior experience could be even more premium than that of the Compass, and that's saying something, given that the Compass’ last update gave it a very premium cabin.

As far as engines go, we expect it to have the same 2.0-litre diesel as that of the Compass, but it would be tuned to make 200bhp. Both a manual and an automatic transmission unit are expected to be on offer, and an all-wheel-drive system will also be offered. Jeep is not expected to offer a petrol engine in the beginning, although if there is enough demand, Jeep could introduce one at a later date.

The feature-set of the Meridian will be quite premium. A panoramic sunroof, multi-zone climate control, a big touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and other such novelties are expected to be on board. The Jeep Meridian could also get autonomous capabilities such as the Gloster.

When the Meridian is launched in India, it will primarily rival the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, and MG Gloster. We expect it to be priced in the Rs 35 lakh to Rs 40 lakh bracket.
